New York, New York

{Image: credit}

16 days and counting...

I'm, like, stupid excited about my trip to NYC at the end of the month! It's not that going to New York is anything new for moi, it's that it's my first official vacay of 2010, and I am so. ready. Also? Ma Soeur will be there, and even though I'll see her later (2nd official vacay is an extended stint in California over July 4th weekend) this year, the idea of us together in the big city is tres exciting. The last time we were there together was for her bachelorette party back in 2007! My, oh my, how time flies...

Anyway, I'll be spending the first couple nights of my trip playing with friends from law school and the latter half playing with my sister and her friends (one of whom is like a big sister to me). In the midst of all the playing, I also plan to walk everywhere and soak up every inch of the city as possible. In the past I've always tended to stay in one particular area of Manhattan (Soho, East Village, Chelsea), but this time I want to see everything. I even want to see Brooklyn, as I've heard it's got some pretty gorge neighborhoods. Also on the list? Museums! I've been to the MET, of course, but this time I want to check out the American Museum of Natural History (I have a big, big thing for dinosaurs) and the MoMA.

Oh and let's not forgot about the food... I've got brunches & dinners lined up (Candle 79 and the Red Cat to name a couple), bakeries (helloooo, babycakes) to frequent, and a Whole Foods Market just in case I find myself hungry and sans vegan options. As for shopping, well, let's just say this will be my first trip to NYC that doesn't revolve around shopping. I plan to visit Topshop, bien sur, but I don't anticipate blowing my budget there. The thing is, I don't need anything right now, and I'm starting to realize that NYC (and vacays in general) are more about the experience than the shopping. (And yes, as sad as it sounds, one of things I got most excited about regarding vacations was the shopping.)

So, the point of this post, was to ask for any suggestions as to what I should see/do/eat/visit while in New York! Please feel free to leave in the comments or to email me directly. Merci and Happy Tuesday!

How fun! I am so jealous - I need a vacation ASAP. I am going to NY either in mid May or beginning of June - so I'm anxious to hear your vegan food reviews!

YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE JUVENEX SPA!!! Ohhhh...just thinking of it sends chills up my spine. I could live there. And when you are done with your luscious experience, it is in the middle of Little Korea so you are bound to eat the best Korean EVER!!! YUMMY!!! Oh, and there is a Korean supermarket near the spa that I always hit up and buy my favorite tea...the same kind that they serve at the spa!

There's a great vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the East Village called theCounter (www.counternyc.com). I was in NYC last week for my spring break and had a great time sampling cuisine from all over -- this was one of my favorite meals! Their desserts are to die for, all vegan friendly, of course. My friend's best friend is the pasty chef there, and her bf is the bartender. I'm actually in the process of blogging about my trip and each of the places I ate at, so check back this week and next for updates. Let me know if you end up going! :D

YAY for NYC! I haven't been to New York since going vegan but I do know they've got some of the best veggie restaurants around. I hope you have fun and eat a lot and tell us all about it.
