It took me about 20 minutes to get dressed this morning, which is a LONG TIME considering i wasn't getting dressed for a date or anything, just a normal Tuesday at work. My closet now resembles a Forever21 store. (you know, piles of clothes and hangers everywhere)
And? I hate my outfit today. It's one of those boring, skirt/tank/cardigan/scarf combos that is so matchy-matchy i feel like i belong in a Dillard's catalog. Le sigh. I desperately need Spring/Summer-friendly work clothes, but i hate spending $$ on crap i would have never bought in my former life.
All this being said, i AM still uber grateful for my job despite the fact that i'm spending my prime years forced to conform to this horrifically conservative and completely uninspiring notion of "business casual".
I abhor business casual.

One of the main reasons I want my own business. Seriously. Today I'm in brown slacks, Kelly green cashmere jcrew sweater and brown heels. I look ok but....yawn. So boring. Welcome to doing PR for a finance company...sigh....
I forget if I mentioned this in an email (I am really tired today) but I have a theory that business casual is actually more constricting than business professional/formal With the later you know you have to wear a suit every day, and yes it's constricting, but somehow that bugs me SO much less than having to wear business casual, which to me is almost like a pretend thing - it's like "no, you dont have to wear a suit, but btw, it's like a uniform too, we just don't like to call it that" - I dont know if this makes sense. But yeah, all my friends think I am crazy to prefer business professional, but it's easy - it means suits and more suits, and the very occasional day where I wear a wrap dress.
I work at an office and wear skinny jeans to work everyday. I've often wondered if anyone will comment on my mall-appropriate ensembles, but they have ignored it. Perhaps after a bit more time, you'll be able to pull the same maneuver - wave goodbye to your business casual drab, and hello to comfy, hip, cute clothes!
my closet looks like f21, too...prolly cuz almost everything is from there. haha oh yeah, there's clothes and hangers clinging for their dear lives in there, too.
and business casual is the devil's doing. there was a point where i worked in a very corporate co. (not fashion related) and i HATED it. when i finally left corporate hell, the first thing i did was bag all the gross clothes and donate it. i actually wanted to burn it all but that wouldn't have been good for the enviro. ;)
I completely agree. I have to rework my wardrobe to be business casual appropriate and it's so annoying. The colors and lack of imagination makes me tired. But then again, we get paid to look drab so that's not too shabby!
What do you do?
